Qual a relevância da digitalização e adoção de componentes da indústria 4.0 para a internacionalização de pequenas e médias empresas portuguesas?

Resumo

Objetivo do estudo:  Analisar a relevância da digitalização e implementação de componentes da indústria 4.0 na internacionalização de Pequenas e Médias Empresas (PME) em Portugal.

Método: Pesquisa exploratória, de abordagem qualitativa, baseada num estudo de caso duplo. Pretende-se explorar, de modo indutivo, de que forma a digitalização e a implementação de componentes da indústria 4.0 influenciam a organização e o processo de internacionalização das PME em estudo.  Os dados primários foram obtidos por entrevistas semiestruturadas com transcrição total das mesmas.

Principais Resultados: Os resultados indicam que, para as PME em estudo, a implementação de componentes da indústria 4.0 e a digitalização causaram impactos a nível organizacional, a cadeia de valor foi afetada positivamente e, consequentemente, as empresas ficaram melhor posicionadas nas suas vantagens competitivas.

Relevância/Originalidade: Este trabalho aporta contributos para o estudo e entendimento integrado da digitalização e internacionalização dos negócios, ou seja, integra e relaciona dois campos de pesquisa autónomos, complexos e estratégicos, não havendo estudos aplicados às PME em Portugal . 

Contribuições tóricas: O principal contributo é de caráter exploratório indicando, para o contexto português, que a literatura é ainda incipiente, pelo que se sugere o desenvolvimento da pesquisa que relaciona a digitalização e a internacionalização das PME porque estas constituem a base dos sistemas económicos e a digitalização constitui uma oportunidade para a internacionalização e sucesso nos mercados internacionais.
